Resistance To Fracking Site Construction At Preston New Road Continues

At Preston New Road in Lancashire Cuadrilla Resources is trying to construct a frack pad for the largest fracking tests in this country so far. The local communities are standing their ground against this fracking threat and disrupting construction at every opportunity, and making sure that Cuadrilla regrets its decision to take them on.

Cuadrilla needs to construct its frack pad at Preston New Road before it can begin 2 years of drilling and hydraulic fracturing at the site. Cuadrilla needs to not only demonstrate the it is technically possible to exploit the Bowland Shale but that it is economically possible in the facing of massive opposition. Without billions more in investor cash this is Cuadrilla’s last stand. Over the last five years communities across the country (and beyond), from Balcombe and Barton Moss to Belcoo and Woodburn Forest, have made sure that the frackers think twice about coming back.

Cuadrilla’s contractors, led by AE Yates Ltd, are trying to construct the frack pad on land to the north of Preston New Road. If allowed to happen this one site would be by far the largest fracking development in the UK to date, with 4 horizontal wells which would be hydraulically fractured in 30-45 stages along there lengths. The site would produce millions of gallons of toxic and radioactive waste and would spread a web of impacts across the country.
