Underground Coal Gasification Company Polluted 40,000 Hectares of Farmland

Hundreds of square kilometres of prime agricultural land has been contaminated by toxic chemicals and explosive gases that seeped from Linc Energy’s UCG trial site. If convicted, five Linc executives face up to five years in jail. The total maximum penalty against Linc Energy is $8,850,000 but the company has already folded owing $289,000,000!

“The Queensland Government has concluded that with the potential impacts of UCG activities and the issues associated with the trial projects to date, the risks of allowing UCG projects to grow to commercial scale are not acceptable and outweigh the foreseeable benefits.”
