This meeting followed confirmation from InfraStrata that they were responsible for an oil spill at Woodburn Forest last week.
InfraStrata had previously made the claim that the site will be a “zero discharge site’ . This spill was confirmed by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency.
This spill comes in the first month of a 50 year agreement between NI Water and InfraStrata at Woodburn Forest in an important water catchment area for Co. Antrim.
According to local media NI Water who have leased the land to InfraStrata could “find no evidence of a spillage”. This is very disturbing given the oil company themselves admit to it.Stop the Drill is very concerned that NI Water our only water provider and regulator have agreed to lease the site to Infrastrata for up to 50 years, to allow them to “drill multiple wells”, and given them “the right to re inject Petroleum, water and any other fluids into the Site and under the Site and the Landlord’s Premises which arise as a result of Petroleum, exploration development, transportation, extraction and/or production of Petroleum originating from any well or wells from time to time upon the Site.”
