One community protector locked themselves to a fracking truck to stop it moving and had to be cut off. In other news sign that marks the footpath past the fracking site, which had mysteriously disappeared, has been located in a ditch. The first parts of the rig arrived yesterday after being delayed by the big orange bus. IGas are using Cuadrilla’s Drillmec HH220 rig that has been previously used to drill fracking wells in Lancashire. Threatened communities in Salford need your help!

Twenty-second day of the community blockade of IGas’s site at Barton Moss, has seen another unexpected arrival. A big orange bus appears to have mysteriously broken down, blocking the entrance to the fracking site. What next?
The 5 people locked on have now been cut off and the bus towed away, after blocking the entrance to the fracking site for over 6 hours. One crane has managed to break through the blockade with police help and get onto the site. Come down and support this community fighting fracking if you can.

Twentith day of the community blockade of IGas’s site at Barton Moss, has seen Santa come early to the North West. A 1.5 tonne wind-turbine blade has been delivered to IGas. The entrance to the Barton Moss site is now completely blocked by the blade.

Seventeenth day of the community blockade of IGas’s site at Barton Moss, has seen another convoy of 13 trucks bringing equipment trying to force its way in against the wished of the local community, with the help of Greater Manchester Police. There were 2 arrests including a pregnant woman and a disabled man had his leg broken by the police.

Ninth day of the Northern Gas Gala has seen the community protection blockade at IGas’s fracking site in Barton Moss, has seen the camp battered by severe gales which have caused a lot of damage. Despite this the community is rallying round to rebuild the camp and are continuing to resist the threat to region from IGas.

Third day of the Northern Gas Gala begins with large numbers of police massing and lorries arriving to try to bring more equipment onto IGas’s fracking site. Police tactics appear to be gather a large convoy of fracking trucks (around 11 in this case) and try to push them down Barton Moss Road to IGas’s site in one go. The local community is resisting this with support from across the region.

Second day of the Northern Gas Gala has been relative quiet. The small drilling rig that got onto site on Tues has been erected, possibly setting a larger conductor casing for the much deeper (10,000 ft) Shale/CBM well that IGas plans to drill. The main drilling rig has not arrived yet, but is likely to arrive soon.

First day of the Northern Gas Gala has seen a large number of people answer the call out to protect Barton Moss (and the wider region) from the threat of posed by IGas’s plans. The brave Barton Moss protectors have been blocking lorries from entering the fracking site and 4 people (3 of them Salford residents) have been arrested for protecting their community from fracking company IGas Energy. The police presence has been large and growing.
