Cuadrilla To Drill Bore-Holes At Lancashire Fracking Sites
Cuadrilla plans to carry out more work at Preston New Road and Roseacre before the result of their planing appeal is even announced. In April 2015 extensive work to install a new water main was carried out at Preston New Road.
This time Cuadrilla is jumping the gun drilling four 30-metre deep bore-holes for groundwater monitoring at both sites. The work will take approximately 16 days using two truck-mounted rigs. Lancashire County Council said planning permission was “normally not needed”.
Why is Ground Water Monitoring A Problem?
Groundwater monitoring is a PR exercise invented by fracking companies to dispel concerns about water pollution and try to gain social acceptance for fracking in the UK. Groundwater monitoring can not prevent pollution and the drilling of monitoring boreholes themselves has the potential to disrupt aquifers and damage water quality. Data from the boreholes is gathered by fracking companies or bodies funded by the fracking industry. The frequency and type of monitoring is controlled by these vested interests and the data may not be made public. Monitoring is just one step closer to fracking.
The only way to ensure that there is no damage to water resources is to stop all drilling and fracking in your area. You can download a Groundwater Monitoring Flyer and loads of other useful stuff via the resources section on the Frack Off website:https://frack-off.org.uk/
