Lancashire Fracking Inquiry is Under-way
The push to frack the UK has reached a new intensity with Cuadrilla Resources appealing against Lancashire County Councils decision to reject two fracking applications for large scale testing at two sites in Lancashire. The planning inquiry has now started at Blackpool stadium will see community groups demanding that Lancashire County Councils decision be upheld and reminding the fracking industry that they will not stand for fracking in Lancashire. The inspector hearing the evidence will make a recommendation at the end of the inquiry. The final decisions will be made by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government who has already signed a letter stating that he will fast track fracking.

These applications fall short of full scale production which would require the involvement of a much larger company with the money to drill hundreds or thousands of wells. However, if allowed to go ahead Cuadrilla and the fracking industry as a whole will be one step closer to drilling 10 million acres of the UK now licensed for fracking.
If approved these tests would be the first multi-well shale gas site in the UK and the first massive slick-water hydraulic fracturing conducted since Cuadrilla caused a number of earthquakes at its Preese Hall site (now being abandoned) in 2011.
