Planning expires 3 years from the date of permission on the 28th May 2016.
On 5 February 2016, IGas announced it was pulling out of this site, saying it did not meet the company’s criteria for coal bed methane development.
The Upton Camp (near Chester) was the longest running anti-fracking camp in the UK, occupied from April 2104 to January 2016. The community at Upton (Chester) opposed IGas Energy’s fracking plans, which could lead to thousands for wells being drilled across Cheshire and the rest of the UK.
Energy company IGas Energy had planning permission and permits in place to drill an exploratory unconventional gas well to sample both the coal bed and the much deeper Bowland shale. The vast majority of the local community strongly opposed the drilling and had vowed to continue their fight. A survey of residents found that 85% do not want fracking in Upton.
