Planned well is being spun by Infrastrata as conventional (targeting offshore licence P1918) but would also drill through the Lias shale formation, which the Britsh Geological Survey is promoting as containing over a billion barrels of shale oil, providing the company with data needed to gain investment for further work. Exploitation of Lias shale in Wessex Basin could lead to drilling of hundreds/thousands of wells across Purbeck and Isle of Wight.
