UKOG have submitted a planning application for permission to create a site and drill an exploration well. The main wellbore would would be drilled to a depth of 5,400 ft, passing through both the conventional Portland Sandstone and the unconventional Kimmeridge Clay shale layer. While the planned horizontal sidetrack in the Portland Sandstone is the primary focus at this stage, testing would also be carried out on the deeper shale layers.

The proposed site is north of the Newport-Sandown road (A3056), about 600m from the nearest home. Arreton village is about 1km to the east and Blackwater is 1.6km to the west. The company proposes to build a new road junction and a vehicle access road as part of the scheme. Read more…
