Update May 2019 – South Western Energy is approaching landowners in the parish of Bleadon seeking permission to do walk over surveys, with a view to prospecting for tight oil. This would be on the Mendips, with a high probability of polluting the entire cave system of the Mendip Hills. An application to drill at the other end of the Mendips was refused because of the danger to the Roman Baths in the city of Bath.
The parishoners of Bleadon are not pleased, and we are arranging a parish meeting on June 11th. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more details.
Our goal is to raise awareness of the risks and dangers of unconventional shale gas extraction and the processes involved and to stand together against the governments’ intentions to go ahead and frack in and around Somerset including under our National Parks.
