On Wed 28th January Lancashire County Council was supposed to be considering planning applications from fracking company Cuadrilla Resources for two of the largest fracking tests ever contemplated in the UK. If allowed to happen, each site would have 4 horizontal wells, producing tens of millions of gallons of radioactive and toxic waste, and opening the door to thousands more wells to be drilled across Lancashire (and the rest of the country).
Concerned communities from across Lancashire and the country as a whole descended upon County Hall in Preston for a show of solidarity and resistance. However, the council eventually decided to defer an consideration the applications, at Cuadrilla’s request (to give them an chance to amend their application). It is likely that the applications will now not be considered for at least 2 months.
