When communities threatened by fracking get organised to resist this invasion, they have a massive effect. Stopping any single well can be very difficult, especially with the whole weight of the state behind the fracking industry. However, in the long-term, massive investment will be required to make fracking a reality. Such investment will not be forth-coming if these projects do not look financially or politically viable.

Around the world community resistance is proving very effective at stopping extractive industries in their tracks. From the Northern Rivers region in New South Wales, Australia, to the Sacred Headwaters in British Columbia, Canada, communities are standing up to the fracking industry and getting results.
