Organised Communities – Your Best Defence Against Fracking
When communities threatened by fracking get organised to resist they have a massive effect. Stopping any single well can be very difficult, especially with the whole weight of the state behind the fracking industry. However, in the long-term, massive investment will be required to make fracking a reality. Such investment will not be forth-coming if these projects do not look financially or politically viable.
The fracking industry has little to show for 5 years work in Lancashire and community groups from across the county are committed to stopping fracking every step of the way. Today Cuadrilla Resources are appealing against Lancashire County Councils decision to reject two fracking applications for large scale testing at two sites in Lancashire.
NO FRACKING IN THE UK SINCE 2011
If approved these tests would be the first multi-well shale gas site in the UK and the first massive slick-water hydraulic fracturing conducted since Cuadrilla caused a number of earthquakes at its Preese Hall site (now being abandoned) in 2011.
