Fracking Company Encana – 6 Day Well Blowout
Crews first responded on Monday 21st Sept to the Encana well situated 18 kilometres west of Fox Creek in Alberta. The well released large volumes of natural gas and liquid condensate as well as toxic hydrogen sulphide. The well was final capped on Sunday 27th.
The town is a fracking hotspot surrounded by a massive network of sites, roads, pipelines and industrialisation (see image below). Earlier this year the town was hit by a magnitude 4.4 quake. Residents are increasingly concerned that there will be severe consequences as gas from fracking wells and gas carried by pipelines in the area contains hydrogen sulphide also known as “sour gas”. Hydrogen sulphide has a toxicity comparable with that of carbon monoxide and can poison several different systems in the body.
