Fracking Myths Debunked – US Residential Gas Price Continues to Rise
Fracking has had little effect on the gas price paid by U.S consumers. This data collected by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows that the price of natural gas delivered to residential consumers has been rising since 1970. Higher energy prices encouraged the fracking boom from around 2000 but had little effect on the price paid by communities. The 2008 recession hit demand and dropped the price of energy globally, but the seasonal peaks in U.S consumer gas prices are again approaching their 2008 peak.
The false promise of lower energy prices for communities is a key fracking myth. As massive investment projects pave the way for US LNG exports and the fracking boom falters, energy prices for industry and consumers in the U.S are set to rise further.
