Cuadrilla Resources wants to construct the UK’s first multi-well shale gas frack pad at Preston New Road near Little Plumpton in Lancashire. The pad is planned to have 4 horizontal shale gas wells, which would be fractured in 30-45 stages along their up to 1.25 mile length. Cuadrilla envisage using between 5.9 and 8.9 million gallons of water to hydraulically fracture each well and in total the site will over 13.3 million gallons of radioactive waste which will be dumped in an unspecified location. Despite the consultation period for the planning application being far from over, Cuadrilla has been trying to move personel onto the site. Before dawn a group local residents set up a camp on the land and the community is getting organised to resist Cuadrilla’s plans. See below for more photos.
