Cuadrilla have recently become increasing vocal about the fact that shale gas extraction has been going on in the UK for decades, so there’s nothing to worry about. In their PR they refer to their site at Elswick as a well that’s been producing gas safely since 1992. In a debate that took place at the entrance to Camp Frack on Friday, one of Mark Miller’s staff stated that he had personally visited 70 or 80 shale gas wells in the UK… or at least that’s the impression that he wanted to give us, what he actually said could well have been a carefully constructed nugget of PR spin.
Anyway, we went and did some research into the Elwick site and here’s what we found.
