Winter Solstice Ceremony at Upton Community Protection Camp
December 20, 2015 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
On Sunday 20th December at Midday, members of the Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids (OBOD) will be coming to Upton Community protection Camp for their Winter Solstice Ceremony.
All are invited to attend, the more the merrier! You do not need to be a druid, nor even pagan to attend, so long as you are respectful, just come along to be part of the midwinter celebrations.
We are requesting no alcohol or other substances prior to the ceremony. Wine or Mead and cake will be shared afterwards.
The Winter Solstice marks the darkest time of the year, it is the shortest day, and the longest night. It marks the death and rebirth of the Sun.
After the solstice, the hours of daylight will increase, though times will continue to be cold and hard. The ceremony will invite back the light, and hope, into our lives.
Upton Community Protection Camp is approaching its dark time now, waiting for the bailiffs to arrive. Whatever happens after that will inspire and give hope to the ongoing campaign in Upton, and other campaigns across the UK, as communities everywhere stand up and say “NO!” to the fracking industry.
As the light dies down, may it be re-lit in our hearts
May our memories hold what the eye and ear have gained
When this ceremony closes in the apparent world,
May its inspiration continue within our beings,
May light, and hope, be kindled in the hearts of all.
