The good folks of Manchester will be going to support the campaign against fracking at Preston New Road in Lancashire. We will be going as a group for the day to join the peaceful roadside protest on the 15th September.
To get there by public transport, please take the train to Preston then catch the number 61 bus from bus stand 4, carlisle street in Preston town. The bus goes to Preston New Road, get off at maple farm to meet up with other people at the site. You need to take the bus going towards Blackpool town centre. Also please feel free to post on the event if you need a lift or can offer one, or if you would like to be in touch with other people who are going. Please note – there is a decent group of people going, they just don’t all use facebook!
Fracking was banned by the local council in Lancashire after local people campaigned and won for their environment. The ban was later overturned by the Secretary of State Sajid Javid. Since then the local community has undertaken a further amazing campaign to resist fracking inluding daily roadside protests since January, legal action (still ongoing) and many other things. As people of Manchester we want to stand by our Lancastrian neighbours. Fracking anywhere puts the environment at risk for all of us.
