Brockham Community Protection Blockade (South East) (Weald (Sussex/Surrey))

loading

Angus Energy is trying to drill a sidetrack to an existing conventional oil well, but one which would also target the Kimmeridge Clay shale formation. This tight/shale oil is the same formation targeted by the Balcombe and Horse Hill wells.

The company, and its partners which include many of the same companies involved at Horse Hill, is hoping that this drilling will allow them to gain additional information on the Kimmeridge shale layer to push forward fracking in the Weald. The community has not been consulted about these development and Angus are assuming they can get away with with these activities without additional planning permission.

The well site is in fields to the west of Old School Lane, south of Brockham, near Dorking in Surrey (see map). A camp has been setup outside the site and the local people are mobilising against the threat. See Fracking The Weald: The Growing Tight Oil Threat for more information about the fracking industry’s plans in the Weald.
